Open vacancies at Mount Kenya University

  1. SCHOOL OF PHARMACY POSITIONS, AREAS OF SPECIALIZATION AND MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 

    i. Professor- (Pharmacology/ Pharmacognosy/ Pharmaceutical Chemistry/ Clinical Pharmacy)
    Requirements:
    1. An earned PhD or equivalent degree qualification in the relevant field from an accredited and recognized University
    2. At least three (3) years teaching experience as an Associate Professor or equivalent and research experience
    3. A minimum of Sixty (60) equivalent publication points since attaining Associate Professorship or equivalent of which at least forty (40) should be from refereed scholarly journals
    4. Supervised a minimum of Five (5) post graduate students to completion including at least two at doctoral level
    5. Registered with the relevant professional body (where applicable)
    6. Attracted research and development funds as an Associate Professor or equivalentii. Associate Professor- (Pharmacology/ Pharmacognosy/ Pharmaceutical Chemistry/ Clinical Pharmacy)
    1. An earned PhD or equivalent degree qualification in the relevant field from an accredited and recognized University
    2. At least three (3) years teaching experience as a Senior Lecturer or Senior Researcher/Industry Experience or equivalent.
    3. A minimum of forty-eight (48) publication points as a Senior Lecturer or equivalent of which at least thirty-two (32) should be from refereed scholarly journals
    4. Supervised a minimum of four (4) post graduate students to completion including at least one at doctoral level
    5. Attracted research or development funds as a senior lecturer/ senior research fellow
    6. Registered as a Pharmacist by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board

    iii. Senior Lecturer (Pharmacognosy, Clinical Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Chemistry/ Pharmacology)

    1. An earned PhD or equivalent degree qualification in the relevant field from an accredited and recognized University.
    2. At least three (3) years teaching experience as a Lecturer or six (6) years research/Industry Experience
    3. A minimum of thirty-two (32) publication points as a Lecturer or equivalent of which at least twenty-four (24) should be from refereed scholarly journals
    4. Supervised a minimum of three (3) post graduate students to completion as a Lecturer or equivalent
    5. Registered as a Pharmacist by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board

    iv. Lecturers (Clinical Pharmacy/ Pharmaceutical Chemistry/Pharmacology/ Pharmacognosy)

  1. An earned PhD or equivalent degree qualification in the relevant field from an accredited and recognized University.
  2. Registered as a Pharmacist by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board

OR

  1. A Master’s degree in the relevant field from an accredited and recognized University
  2. With at least three (4) years teaching experience at University level or research or industry
  3. Registered as a Pharmacist by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board

2. MEDICAL SCHOOL /SCHOOL OF CLINICAL MEDICINE (SENIOR LECTURERS AND LECTURERS)
     AREAS OF SPECIALIZATION AND MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

i. Human Pathology

  1. MBChB or its equivalent from a recognized University.
  2. MMed Pathology or its equivalent from a recognized University
  3. Sub-specialty in either Immunology, Hematology or Clinical Chemistry
  4. Registered as a Specialist by the Kenya Medical Practitioners & Dentists Council

ii. Anaesthesiology

  1. MBChB or equivalent from a recognized University
  2. MMed Anaesthesia or its equivalent from a recognized University
  3. Registered by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.

iii. Physiology

  1. MBChB or its equivalent from a recognized University and in addition BSc. Physiology
  2. MSc in Physiology (first degree MBChB or BPHARM or BDS or BSc. Physiology)

  iv. Surgery

  1. MBChB or its equivalent from a recognized University.
  2. MMed Surgery or its equivalent from a recognized University
  3. Registered as a Specialist by the Kenya Medical Practitioners & Dentists Board
  4. A sub specialty will be an added advantage

v. Internal Medicine

  1. MBChB or its equivalent from a recognized University.
  2. MMed in Internal Medicine or its equivalent from a recognized University
  3. Sub-specialty in infectious diseases will be an added advantage
  4. Registered as a Specialist by the Kenya Medical Practitioners & Dentists Board

vi. Obstetrics / Gynaecology

  1. MBChB or its equivalent from a recognized University.
  2. MMed in Obstetrics/Gynaecology or its equivalent from a recognized University
  3. Sub-specialty in Maternal fetal medicine, Gynaecology, Endocrinology & infertility will be an added advantage
  4. Registered as a Specialist by the Kenya Medical Practitioners & Dentists Board

vii. Paediatrics & Child Health

  1. MBChB or its equivalent from a recognized University.
  2. MMed in Paediatrics & Child Health or its equivalent from a recognized University
  3. Sub-specialty in Neonatology, Endocrine or Critical care
  4. Registered as a Specialist by the Kenya Medical Practitioners & Dentists Board

viii. Psychiatry and Mental Health

  1. MBChB or its equivalent from a recognized University.
  2. MMed Psychiatry or its equivalent from a recognized University
  3. Sub-specialty in Adolescent, Substance abuse, Paediatric, Family or organizational psychiatry will be an added advantage.
  4. Registered as a Specialist by the Kenya Medical Practitioners & Dentists Board
