Mount Kenya University (MKU) is a fully fledged chartered university committed to a broad-based, holistic and inclusive system of education. We are seeking to recruit competent, dynamic and ambitious professionals to fill up the following vacant positions:

  1. ICT OFFICERS – NAIROBI AND NAKURU CAMPUS

Job Summary

The post holder will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining the computer systems and networks in the Campus.

Key roles/responsibilities:

The summary duties include but shall not be limited to;

  • Performing systems administration functions across servers and desktops.
  • Be in charge of all the computer labs at the Campus.
  • Maintaining the Campus Network
  • Providing technical support and routine/ad-hock maintenance of computer hardware and Software systems at the Campus.
  • Maintaining systems backup, security and contingency plans to ensure continuity.
  • Playing an active role to ensure successful implementation of ICT projects
  • Advising on computer systems procurement.
  • Conducting hardware and software installation.
  • To appropriately execute any other duties as directed by the Campus Director and/or the Registrar, Finance, Administration and Planning.

Minimum Qualification and Attributes

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Communication Technology or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • ICT Certification in Security/Networking (Microsoft, Cisco, Oracle).
  • 2 years’ experience as an ICT Officer or a similar position.
  • Uphold sound work ethics and be highly disciplined.
  • Possessing tenacious attitude, friendly, honest, trustworthy, respectful and flexible.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision, independently or as part of a team.
  1. LIBRARY ASSISTANT – THIKA CAMPUS

Job Summary

The job holder will be expected to provide support in the day to day operations and management of the library.

Key roles/responsibilities:

The summary duties include but shall not be limited to;

  • Accessioning, giving new books ownership stamp.
  • Classification, cataloguing, indexing and abstracting.
  • Electronic learning user support services (internet & email).
  • Library user orientation and education.
  • Literature search using online public access catalogue (OPAC).
  • Online circulation of library books (Check in and Check out).
  • Preservation of library materials.
  • Reference and reprography services.
  • Shelving of information services.
  • Advice on required materials in the library.
  • To appropriately execute any other duties as directed by the University Librarian and Information Services or the Deputy University Librarian.

Minimum Qualification and Attributes

  • Bachelor of Science in Information Science
  • Diploma in Information Science/Studies (library option) from a recognized Institution.
  • Knowledge in KOHA System would be an added advantage.
  • Computer literate.
  • Uphold sound work ethics and be highly disciplined.
  • Possessing tenacious attitude, friendly, honest, trustworthy, respectful and flexible.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision, independently or as part of a team.

 

  1. SYSTEM LIBRARIAN – THIKA CAMPUS

The post holder will be responsible for managing the information technology used in the library.

Key roles/responsibilities:

The summary duties include but shall not be limited to;

  • Manage the daily operation of the library’s automated systems and workstations, remaining on call at all times.
  • Design, implement, and integrate daily operations of the library’s automation and communication systems, including the innovative interfaces system, LANs, web server, internet access, telecommunications, and related evolving systems in consultation with the Deputy Director, Management Information System.
  • Design and maintain the library website as a marketing tool for library operations and services.
  • Develop and recommend policies and procedures for use of computers and computer systems in the library.
  • Manage digital repository and resources.
  • Design, plan, implement and evaluate the present and future automation needs of the library, making recommendations for implementation to the library administration.
  • Coordinate, library-wide training on use of automated systems, creating in-house documentation as needed.
  • Monitor all system functions and be responsible for proper operation.
  • To appropriately execute any other duties as directed by the University Librarian or the Deputy University Librarian.

 

Minimum Qualification and Attributes

  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or its equivalent from recognized institution.
  • Knowledge in KOHA System.
  • Computer literate.
  • Three (3) years’ experience as a System Librarian or a similar position.

  OR

  • Bachelor of Science in Information Science or its equivalent from recognized institution.
  • Knowledge in KOHA System.
  • Computer literate.
  • Five (5) years’ experience as a System Librarian or a similar position.
  • Uphold sound work ethics and be highly disciplined.
  • Possessing tenacious attitude, friendly, honest, trustworthy, respectful and flexible.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision, independently or as part of a team.
